November was dismal

Howdy my lovelies!

November did not go over as planned. Not by a long shot.

NaNoWriMo was dismal, with 3 people in all showing up to the Write Ins at the library. Still a person better than last year. I’ve noted that the NaNoWriMo organization as a whole is taking a plunge in the past two years. No one is donating to reach goals, the NaNo staffers had to issue a statement that the fun times for MLs are not happening next year, and, participation is just kaput.

In personal news, my hubs damaged an aircraft tail rotor at work on accident. It didn’t come off the trailer right. Despite it being an accident, he was fired the entire month of November while the Union worked on getting him his job back. It was awful, his blood pressure was way too high and he was bored. He slept a lot. A plus side was that he went to every one of my NaNo events with me. That helped my anxiety. Thankfully, on November 28th, his Union representative came to the house and told him to pick up his badge and CAT card and report to work that night. He lost no seniority (25 years worth) and no change in pay grade status. The downside is that he has no pay for the month of November, and we are going to have a crappy Christmas. I have a deep freezer with food and food in the cabinets, so at least we wont starve, I hope.

I’ve worked on some short stories over NaNoWriMo, mostly horror, because you know I cant get away from the horror genre for some reason. I’ll post some up soon.

All my cat kids are doing well. BaxterMarie is still queen bee, Jeff is suspicious of everything and Lil Man hasn’t a care in the world unless its antagonizing BaxterMarie.

In the coming days I will be talking about some games I play. Well, two of them. I only play two. They are online browser based RP games, both pretty fun, one more-so than the other. Some shameless promotion. I mean, if you are an avid reader, why not take a look? Play around a little, write your own stories. I’ve posted plenty of my RPs to here and its fun. Its nice, because its not a tenacious as sitting down and working on a novel.

But, that is to come.

For now, be sweet, my darlings…<3

Revving up for NaNoWriMo 2018

As always, I participate in National Novel Writing Month in November. I am even a municipal Liaison for my Region way down yonder in the South of Alabama.

This year, I will be writing something new. A collection of Short Stories, hopefully each story will be approximately 1700 words. That’s 30 Short Stories.

And as most know, I write mostly Horror Genre…or a little smut. OOO…good times!

So I have my space for my group set up with dates and times for those wanting to write in a larger setting for conversation and help with any road bumps. We are even going to have a pizza party on Nov. 30, and I am putting together a gift bag for our writer that breaks the 50k limit and goes beyond.

The last two years have seen the group gatherings fall shorter and shorter, but will organization with the library, we have been able to get some good TV, radio and other promotional things going.

I may do a blog a day as well, just to vent any frustrations, give samples of what I am writing, etc..

So, keep alert for more prattling from me, the Queen of Rambling!

Love ya Darlings!

New Year with Cheezy Horror Flix

So I have been ringing in the new year with some of the most horrible Horror Movies ever. I have a rather large list, but just today I watched this series of movies, Bad Ben, Steelmanville Road (prequel) and Badder Ben.

They were just awful, yet enthralling. The f/x were way laughable. The premise was hilarious. They characters themselves were worth a chuckle because the acting was so terrible.

The reason I stuck it out on these horrid movies was because I am a die hard ‘found footage’ movie fanatic. I love found footage movies. I have watched quite a few of them, going off of a list I found online. Some of the best ones out there, however, are subtitled due to being foreign films. I hate having to read a movie…too much chance I will visually miss something important.

We had a lovely Christmas and New Years in my household, and over this past weekend I got to meet my daughters future in-laws. They are great, and we will come together to build a fantastic family.

I have been trying to get the cats to take a picture of them in my carry on bag and duffel bags. Normal, they would be all fighting for who gets to sit in them. Now, when I want a picture of it, they are blatantly ignoring them. Little turds.

Things seem to be nice, quiet and happy here of late, and I am really enjoying it. I sent a bunch of mail out in December. Cards and letters. I got a lot in return as well. I love my pen pals. And my email buddies. Its nice to have more than just the cats to talk to, because they always turn out ignoring me to lick various parts of their bodies, or looking at me in that ‘I am cat, I am judging you’ way.

More to come soon. Been working on a few writing pieces here and there. Gaming a lot. We are at war, so that’s always fun!

Be sweet, my lovelies.

Movie Review: Wolf Creek 1,2 & Series

Wolf Creek 1 & 2

wolf creek series

Wolf Creek the Series (one season)

I took a day to myself to re-watch some of my favorite movies from Down Under. Australia puts out some really great horror movies, and movies based on actual events.

This review covers the Wolf Creek movies and the single season series. Each starts with the mention that it is based on actual events. And its is pretty accurate. Australia has a large amount of serial killers that have never been caught.

Young people flock to the Outback to take in the brilliant scenery and hitchhike around the country. Hence, so many go missing. Predators hone in one this, making these young ones easy targets. Included in the opening credits of the movies is the line ‘30,000 people go missing in Australia every year, 90% are found, 10% are never found.’ So, foul play runs rampant.

There are proven ‘backpack serial killers’ that have been caught, but how many copy cats go unchecked? And some of those that have been caught are so brutal to their victims. Australia is a vast land, as harsh as it is beautiful.

So, on with the reviews.

Wolf Creek movies 1 and 2, and the short series are some of my favorites. It is the villain I seem to root for, because, in my little head, he is just the best. Mick Taylor is a relentlessly brutal serial killer. He targets tourists. He views them as pigs that just need to be eliminated from ‘his’ country.

Mick has the absolute best maniacal snicker/chuckle I have ever heard. Actor John Jarret captures this character so well, I could never picture the character of Mick Taylor played by anyone else.

The good news is, Wolf Creek 3 is in post production.

Wolf Creek introduces us to Mick. It shows his relentless pursuit of those he deems as trash and a mar on his country. Foreigners are not welcome in his country. So, as a ‘pest eliminator’, he does his job. He takes great joy in this endeavor.

Wolf Creek 2 is much the same, showing just how gruesome this man can be. He is hilarious, however. Creepy, but hilarious. Some of his one liners had me in stitches, but, you have to remember, I am a fan of villains. Also, that snicker/chuckle. It makes me smile.

The short Season of Wolf Creek that was developed was also so perfect. This time, we got to see what drives Mick to do the things he does. We learn of his past, getting a glimpse into why he does what he does, and just how his mind got so warped.

The movies and the series are quite gruesome for the faint of heart. There really isn’t a fear factor as far a jump scares. It is more about sitting on the edge of your seat as the gore happens, because you can nearly feel the pain of Mick victims as he does what he does. He is quite creative and twisted. No one really gets a ‘clean death’.

So if you are up for a really charismatic villain and a lot of gruesome edge of your seat gore, I highly recommend checking these movies and the series out. You wont be disappointed.

Who’s on my Bookcase: Mira Grant

Seanan-McGuire-crop-credit-Carolyn-Billingsley

Seanan McGuire, AKA Mira Grant; photo by Carol Billingsley

Mira Grant is the pen name for Seanan McGuire. Using both names, she had produced some of the most wonderful books.

Today, we will look at her work under the Mira Grant pen name.

My first experience was at the insistence of a friend of what a good zombie book ‘Feed’ was. I, however, couldn’t sit and read through it due to some of the politics in the book. My brain just couldn’t wrap around it.

I put it down and came back to it at a later day, and BOOM! I was hooked. By that time, the second book in the trilogy was out, ‘Deadline’, so my ravenous eyes devoured that book as well.

Then came the patient wait for ‘Blackout’, the book to close it all together.

Mind you, Ms. Grant is also a pro at the short story/novella style of writing as well. To go along with the Feed trilogy, she also put out the following novellas:

  • Please Do Not Taunt The Octopus
  • The Day The Dead Came To Show And Tell
  • How Green This Land, How Blue This Sea
  • The Last Stand Of The California Browncoats
  • Countdown
  • Apocalypse Scenario #683: The Box

Now, mind you, all these little novellas fall into the Feed universe, so they may intertwine, loop and reveal some details here and there.

This woman has a very unique take on the zombie apocalypse and how it would start. That’s what I love about it…it has an actual, really in-depth reason for the whole ‘dead munching on the living’ scenario. This woman does her homework.

Next comes the Parasite trilogy. Parasite, Symbiont and Chimera. I have made my way through Parasite so far, and love it. I haven’t finished the trilogy yet, but based on the first book, hot damn.

And finally, Mira Grant has a new book out. ‘Into the Drowning Deep’. I really want to get through the Parasite trilogy before I dive into her newest.

Grant_IntoDrowningDeep-HC

Mira Grant is one of those writers that knows how to hook you with a unique prospective on old topics. She managed to meld zombies, politics and a peak into the future so superbly.

Sadly, I have not read any of the books written under her true name, Seanan McGuire. My best friend has read them and loves them. It’s a huge collection of books, however, and I need more time to work on one name at a time.

I highly recommend the ‘Feed’ trilogy and all the novellas that go with it.

Five huge stars!!!

Happy reading, my darlings!

What’s on my bookcase: Stephen Knight

Stephen Knight

61BV4Eppf7L._UX250_Stephen Knight is one of those authors I just happened to stumble over…and it was instant love. I read one of his books on my best friends Kindle and fell in love.

I had to have the book. I tootle on over to his page and BAM! He has a whole series!!! I had to have them all. He actually has two different series, but, me being me, stuck to the zombie series.

What makes Stephens Knight’s zombies in the Gathering Dead series so great, is that some are slow, some are fast…and some remember. That’s right! They have memories of people, loved ones, how to do things like drive (badly) and use weapons.

I was floored by this. And of course, you are going to fall in love with a character only to watch them go out blazing. Or whimpering.

The Last Town was just a series of novellas, but I know see they have been condensed into one book. The Gathering Dead and The Rising Horde, as well as Left with the Dead have also been condensed into an omnibus.

If you love zombie tales, that have a very good grounding in a reality type world, these are the books for you. Great characters and plots. Even those you are meant to hate are written to perfection.

I don’t know what his other series is about, just from titles and cover art, they seem more sci-fi. Not quite my bag.

Another thing that is so great about these books, especially with them being zombie books, is they touch you as a human. It’s not all about zombies, nom, nom, nom, shoot, shoot, shoot. No, these books touch deeper into the lives of the people trying to survive. It nearly had me in tears several times, and that is a pretty heard feat to accomplish.

So, as the weather gets a little cooler, and you want to snuggle up with some good reading material, zombies and people, this is a good series. 10/10 on my scale. Great for reading through October.

I hope you check these books out, and if so, enjoy them as much as I have. I am waiting for more, as the end seeeeemed to be left open for a continuation. But Mr Knight is involved in several other projects, so that remains to be seen.

Happy reading!

Be sweet, my darlings!

RP pt 1- A walk amongst the Dead

8d1554d0-66b1-4bec-aa8f-810679e00131_zps02f0d308

This is a Role Play I am currently working on for the Bloodletting game. I play both characters involved. They have a love/hate relationship pretty much. If you are interested in seeing just what the Bloodletting RPG is all about, check it out at Bloodletting.org.  If you decide you want to sign up and feel like getting one of my characters a little bank for it, use the following links:

(Addison) http://www.bloodletting.org/other_pages/registration.php?user=149254

(Genesis) http://www.bloodletting.org/other_pages/registration.php?user=151855

Keep in mind, Genesis is a Lycan, and Addison is a Slayer, though was a former vampire. She’s the weird one of the two. 😛

Part One:

Genesis:

She woke up, her head groggy, her eyes seeing stars and there was a strange buzzing in her ears. She took mental inventory of her body situation. Toes wiggled, fingers flexed. She turned her head from side to size. She took in the smell. Damp, rank. Gross. Decay and rot. An undercurrent of sea water. Salt in the humid air.

Genesis finally became more aware, her eyes clearing. She sat up, finding herself on a cold, wet concrete floor. The odors in this place were incredibly overpowering. The stink and stench.

She stood slowly, taking another inventory of herself. Someone had taken her weapons. Her handguns were gone, holsters and all. The knife in her boot was gone. Hell, even her lighter was gone from her pocket.

Her head ached. Apparently, from the feel of things, someone had managed to get the drop on her and bash her in the back of the head. She didn’t feel any other injuries other than the knot on the back of her skull, and the bruise to her pride that someone had gotten the better of her.

Her ears perked suddenly, to a sound in the room. More than one sound. However, one was close. A groaning of someone else in a little pain, following by a slew of cursing every swear word in the book. The voice was female. Southern drawl. One guess who it would be.

Genesis let her lip curl into a snarl for a moment, keeping herself silent. The other noises made their way to her sharp Lycan ears. Groaning, though different than what she heard before. This was deep, guttural. Groaning and moaning, occasional hissing noises. What the hell?

And she couldn’t for the life of her get that stink out of her nose. Rotten meat. Pungent and putrid. Utterly disgusting and offensive to her sensitive nose.

Genesis tried to orient herself to her surroundings. Concrete floor, old, cracked. Steel beams and mesh cages here and there. Stronger cages of steel as well. She looked upward, finding the walls and ceiling were metal. It would seem this was some sort of cavernous warehouse. Maybe a slaughterhouse? And where was it? Was she in Sydney? She couldn’t discern a regional location due to that god awful stink in the place.

She took two steps forward, where there was a little shaft of light shining into a puddle. The tangy metallic scent of blood then drifted to her nose. The puddle wasn’t of water, but of blood. Old blood, yet not yet congealed. Perhaps the humidity in the air was preventing it from drying up.

She shook her head from those thoughts, moving in the direction of the more feminine groan and lovely woven use of swear words.

She stood before a huddled ball of tiny woman, curled up on her side, holding her head, muttering and cursing still. Why her? Why ALWAYS her?

Giving the woman a look over, she seemed to be in the same predicament as herself, however, her weapon of choice was still with her. She had heard that it couldn’t be removed from her person unless she willed it, so Genesis assumed that rumor was true.

Well, at least one of them was armed.

Noise from the far end of the building echoed. Groaning, moaning and shuffling. Someone or something dragging their feet.

She nudged the other woman lying on the cold concrete with her foot. “Get up…we have company…”

Addison:

Addison was not a happy camper. Someone had approached her and clubbed her with a baseball bat. Thankfully, the woman was hard headed. She managed to fight. That had only served to earn her more of a beating with the aluminum bat.

Then someone had the audacity to try to take her sword from her. That had actually been funny, as the moment it left her person, her attacker, or one of them, became violently ill as the sword itself went into self-preservation mode to be reunited with its mistress.

Addison grabbed her sword back up, and was about to unsheathe it to dispatch her attackers, hoping to lop off one head at a time, but was rudely interrupted by a sharp pain in her neck. A sharp painful pinch. Just as the world started fading to black, she saw her attackers, wearing ski masks, draw back a little, one with a nice big syringe in his hand. Fuckers had drugged her. Dammit all.

She woke to a throbbing behind her eyes, and the bile in her stomach rising at the damned stink of this place. She tucked herself into a ball to escape the stink and nurse her pains. Her sword hung across her back, its vibrations warning her of dangers, yet she shushed it for now.

Then there was the nudge at her side and a familiar voice. Oh, lucky day. Wolf girl was here. She loosened from her fetal position and sat up, legs sprawled in front of her. She rubbed her head at the temples with her small hands.

“Ow.Ow.Ow. What the hell, wolf-girl? AND WHAT IS THAT SMELL??!!” She bellowed through the annoyance of pain.

Her nose couldn’t be rid of the smell. It was overpowering to the sense. And then she felt the movement around them. Something not human. Demon? She wasn’t sure at this time. Her sword was screaming at her however. Its steady pulses of energy urging her sore body to move.

She looked up to see the wolf-girl, Genesis, staring off into the shadows. Where were they even? The structure was large. It echoed. It was filthy. There was a tinge of salt water in the air. The sea was close.

Then the noise began to hit her ears. The slow shuffle. The drag of something against the floor.

The low moans.

Addison blinked the last of the fog from her eyes, moving to stand next to Genesis, drawing her cursed sword.

“Fucking zombies…” She muttered, just as one became visible. And then another, and another. These were old zombies. Slow moving. Yet, every bit as deadly as the newer, freshly bit and turned zombies. Those would probably pose a problem for the pair.

She looked over to Genesis, giving her a sharp poke to the side. “Get your guns out. Remember…head shots. OH! You can go all wolf-tastic on them!” She said enthusiastically.

She drew her sword and set to the ready. Let the fun commence.

More parts will be posted over the next few days! Thanks for reading!

Camp NaNo 2016

CNW_Participant2016

It’s that time of year again! Camp NaNoWriMo 2016, the first of two.

This Camp I have set a really small word goal…15,000 words. I am going to focus on short stories, the theme being supernatural and horror. I plan on posting what I write up daily here to the blog, so keep an eye out! Hopefully I’ll manage some pretty entertaining things.

In other news…Quinn is adapting to her new home here. She gets along really well with Jeffrey Jones, but, Jeffrey is a pretty chill sort of guy. Things with BaxterMarie can get a little tense, however. There was a lot of poofing and hissing and growling going on, but that has eased up. Baxter is TRYING to make friends, but Quinn is still a little iffy and tends to hiss and retreat.

Oh…remember I broke my foot? I did it again. I swear, my poor foot is going to fall off at some point. I went to see my doctor and she looked at it, said I should probably go back to the bone and joint specialist again for possible surgery. I told her I thought the specialist was a quack. Nice guy and all…but a quack.

The daughter demon spawn of mine is doing well. She has discovered yoga and loves it. She goes to a non profit (they take donations and she is out of a job currently) place and really enjoys it. She even dragged her father creature with her. I guess he thought it was okay, but he hasnt gone back…lol. ME? NOPE.

GOOD NEWS! My mommy  and daddy are coming up from Guatemala for a little visit. Its time for them to renew their (retiree) military IDs and they want to get a few legal things taken care of. My dad is going to go see his family up north, too, while my mom gets fought over between me and my older sister…lol. All in all, its going to be nice.

So, thats the dealio. Look out for some short stories coming in April. I’ll probably do the same thing again for the July Camp NaNo, though with a higher daily word count.

~hugs and squishes and hairballs~

Running: A short story (Incomplete)

This is an incomplete story. I had started it a while back, in one of my games, but the game itself went under since no one was playing it. So, I never really got the chance to finish the story. This is another one I will probably revisit if I could remember the original theme. Its wasnt quite vampires, it was something out of the ordinary (for me at least), so, hopefully I’ll remember and can get this going as a small little series of sorts.

Enjoy!

All I could think about was to keep running, keep hiding, and keep Gennifer safe. Something dreadful had happened, and I’m still trying to put the bits and pieces together, but with all this tiring running, constant hiding, and Gens unstoppable babble is splitting my head in two.
I drop to my knees, pulling Gennifer along with me, pressing my back against the wall taking deep breaths. My lungs feel funny. I feel like I’m just gulping air, and it’s doing nothing.
“He said we wouldn’t have to do that anymore, if we just accepted him. He said he really likes us…I guess on kinda that we’re twinnies. I liked him, I don’t know why you were so mean, why you fought. Gessy, I always say your mean streak gets us nowheres.”
I looked to Gennifer. Sweet Genny. We’re twins. Though something happened in the womb. It would appear I was dominant, taking all the nutrients for development. I was a big, well-formed baby. Poor Genny was so little. And her brain just never developed right. Her body grew up and out though. We are identical. We choose to live the identical lifestyle as well. Most of the time we dress the same, do our hair the same, etc. . . . But still…you can tell who is who. Genny is all soft, like a little lost dove. I have a harder edge to me. My ‘mean streak’ as Genny calls it.
And it appears my mean streak got us in a tussle or something tonight. Bits and pieces are coming back. I looked silently over at my sister, hoping she’ll talk, tell me what my mind is missing in current events.
Genny just crossed her arms and looked away. “I *wanted* to go with the man. He was nice and friendly. The man made you nervous though, and you know what you get like…all mean and grouchy. You hit him, hard.” Genny paused, looking around them at the graffiti walls. “You beat the shit out of him Gessy. It was only after he couldn’t get up that something stopped you. He whispered to you, I dunno what he said. Then the next thing I know is you screamed out and fell down, all this blood gushing from someplace. I got scared, I hid under a table.” Gennifer put her face down, embarrassment shown clear in the crimson stain across her cheeks. “I think I pee’d myself. I got so scared. But then the he came to me, touched my face all nice. He made me feel okay. He whispered things to me, I don’t really understand what…but there is a place we have to go to, to see him again. I wanna go, I know where to go.” Genny quieted once again.

“I feel funny, like I took drugs or something…did they give me drugs Genny?” I asked my little, by 3 minutes, sister.
Gennifer shook her head to her twin. “No, no drugs. And after you beat the man up, he just got back up again. I told you that. I was scared Gessy…I was hiding…but when he was gone, I came back out for you. You were all covered in blood and your neck was all gross and hanging open. I cried and cried. I lay down beside you because I didn’t know what to do…who would take care of me?” Genny was getting teary on me…when she got teary, she got whiney.
I moved and put my arm around her. “There, there. I’m here. But how am I here?” Gessica looked down at her clothing. Sure enough, they were covered in dried blood.
“You started moving, like, in your sleep. Your throat and neck just got better, even though there was blood everywhere. And you just opened your eyes, grabbed me, and we started running. I wanna go back to find that man Gessy. He’s a magical being or something. I can feel it deep inside me…you know my ‘feelin’s are usually spot on. I got a feelin’ bout this man. Maybe he can help us and we could have a for real home!” Genny spouted.
I put my hand on her thigh. “Settle down, Gen. You said this man did something to me and when you looked, my throat was all cut open? So not sure I want to find someone like that again.”
Gennifer suddenly stood up, her blue crystalline eyes shimmering. “That’s just it Gessica! We HAVE to go to him…he did something to you, and you need him now, and what he did, I want it too! YOU started this Gessica, you hafta make it right!”
Whoa…referring to me as ‘Gessica’. She only does that when she’s in an eerie state of clarity and feeling mature. And angry. I get up, brushing my behind off.
I put my hands up, stepping closer to my sister gently. “Okay Gennifer…okay. We’ll do what you want. And…Maybe this guy will find us sooner. Something is happening to me Genny…I smell things different. Hear and see things different.”
My sister just looked at me with her big beautiful eyes, waiting for me to go on.
“I can hear…smell…almost taste…the blood coursing through you…”

Innocence: A short story

Another 3 word prompt.

1. spoon
2. tree
3. blood

He dug into the hard ground with a spoon near a tall tree. He made sure this tree was recognizable to him from all the others in the forest behind his home. He had his reasons.

The biggest being was in case he wanted to come back and remember. Remember the feeling. What if he never did it again? He had to preserve the memory somehow.

He lifted the small puppy up and laid it in the shallow hole he had dug with the spoon. His mother would kill him if she knew he had taken her good serving spoon. She thought she had lost it weeks ago, however. No blame was ever cast on him.

He looked down at the sad little puppy. A sound suddenly spooked him from behind. He looked around, paranoia setting in. Hurriedly he scooped the dirt over the puppy. He placed a few sticks and leaves over the small mound, shoving the spoon deep into the now soften dirt as sort of a marker.

Standing, he wiped the dirt and blood off his hands the best he could with the towel he had used to hide the puppy he had killed.

As he walked home, he tossed it into a nearby stream.

Walking into his home, his mum met him at the door. He smiled sweetly.

‘All things truly wicked start from an innocence…’
