No sleep, book news and musings…

4dab90e5ddb782e08e98cf7db35f5e37

Again, I have disappeared for an extended amount of time. I tend to do that. I have tried keeping up with my snail mail pen pals, my last round of letters went unanswered but a few.

I am in one of my sleepless modes again. Musing my little musings.

I have a book a should be writing. The sequel to The Road of Darkness shouldnt be taking so long. I mean, the book is there, nearly done. I read over what I’ve written and end up scrapping it part of the way in. So, I have my beginning and my ending…though missing my middle. I am in a rut…a terrible, terrible rut of how Addison is making her way through her journey. I keep falling into this trapping that changes who she us meant to be. She is meant to be strong, fierce…she is meant to be disliked.

I’ve always held a fondness for unlikable characters that do have some redeeming qualities. I have had a reviewer state that they just couldn’t get into the character because she was SO unlikable in the fact that she did not discriminate in who she killed…especially the women and children. Well…thats what big bad vampires do.

So here in my second book I am finding Addison is softening up…and I do not like it. Yes, change is needed for her character developement, but I don’t want to change the core of her, and that’s what I keep sliding into. It’s horribly frustrating.

I have been writing short stories, and actively Role Play story writing in my time as I struggle with this.

I’ve also pondered trying to get some of these short stories and what-not published. I am looking at small publications, just my short stories here and there. So, if anyone knows some names they’d like to toss my way, I would appreciate it. I could always self publish a short story compilation, but I really am curious as to outside people looking over them and what I have to offer, seeing as I do write for more than one genre.

I have been on a voracious reading spree. I have revisited Eric R Lowthers novel and short story compilation, and find myself wanting more. He seem to be suffering what I am, as his second novel was promised in 2014 and it is yet to be produced. I love that mans writing, genius in the zombie genre.

Serial Killers…a passion of mine, I have read 3 books on the subject in the last 3 days. Oh, and one trivia and fact book.

I have no been very social…I mean, like, at all. I havent been visiting my favorite blogs, Facebook, twitters, etc.. I am sorry for that. I have even been a little withdrawn in my little gaming world. It’s a phase, I’m sure.

In health news, I have a new spinal doctor, and we are working on a pain management, and eventual elimination plan. I am currently pain-free as I write this and it feels remarkable.

The kittehs are well. All six of them. Okay, I will confess, they are terrors. All six of them. Spencer, or who I call ‘Lil man’, is the newest that I had brought home from my best friends place in New Mexico. He has grown like a weed, yet still looks so remarkably kitten-like. He is the king of holy terror as well. It is going on 5am and he is ripping through the house playing and antagonizing the older cats.

I really would like some sleep right about now. I tried about an hour ago and pretty much tossed and turned, got hot, then cold, and finally the cats playing dragged me from my bed once again.

Maybe I just sleep better during the daylight hours. Honestly, though inconvenient, I like my nights. No one to bother me, no phone ringing, the house is quiet-ish. Sleeping through the day can be hassle because of the phone, people, things to be done. Blah.

Well, I suppose I have rambled enough. I will get some stories posted to entertain you shortly. Dont forget about me!!!

I need help.

NaNo's One last hoorah

nanowrimo_2016_webbanner_winner

Well, NaNoWriMo is done for 2016. I exceeded my word count and everything is all happy and smiles.

However, its not the end for me. Tonight I will be hosting a final TGIO party for my group of Wrimo’s. (I’m a Municipal Liaison for NaNo)

Tonight we will laugh, vent, maybe even cry. All while stuffing our faces with pizza and snacks!

And the best news of all – the creativity isnt going to end with NaNoWriMo and the joint venture with the Library system that allowed us to use their facilities for our events.

I have coordinated with the directors of the Library system to host creative writing classes every other month throughout 2017 to bring in new writers and introduce them to their inner creative monsters and to the NaNoWriMo project. Its going to be a beautiful thing.

As for December, however, after tonights shindig, I am going to take the month to myself. I am going to bring all my roleplay gaming characters out of their sleep mode and start to game writing again. I’ve missed my writing buddys and the worlds of the two games I play. Will Genesis finally kill Addison? Will Addison find werewolf biscuits and win the heart and friendship of Genesis? Will Nemesis finally reach her goal of collecting more kittens in Ravenblack than anyone ever? Oh, the things I will write for my beloved characters.

January will see me balancing, with no pressure, between my gaming writing and my continued work on my novel. Streamlining, editing, all that stuff that makes liquor taste a lot better.

I also still have collections of short stories to share. Newly written ones as well! Oh! Lets not forget those little teases of Book Two excerpts either. AND SMUT! Okay, well, not a lot of smut, I know its not for everyone. Sometimes I just feel the need to share my dirty little writings. I CAN write more than horror…I can do romance. Its rough and tumble romance…but you can feel the love….ugh, I ramble…

I’m hoping 2017 will be much nicer to me than 2016 was. Once I get this spinal surgery done I am hoping to be a little more pain free and active. I miss my treadmill at the gym. And swimming. Gosh do I love swimming.

I also have travel plans for late in 2017 to go to Guatemala with my bestest friend in the world to see my mom! So exciting. I’ve got my passport paperwork, and had to wait for an official copy of my birth certificate, but I am ready to get the process started now.

So, I have things to do and people to harass for now.

Be sweet my lovelies…

November 2016 Day 30

nano-and-nablo-banner

Final day of NaNoWriMo! WOOHOO…I made it! I beat the 50k word goal AND I haven’t finished my novel. I made too many changes, and they proved to be for the better, making for a heartier read when the book is done, edited and ready for print.

And todays final BlogHer prompt would tie in to that in a way.

However, let me say, that in all my years of adulting, and trying to avoid it, have I never been asked to choose a word for myself for the oncoming year. Resolutions….blah. I kind of like this word for myself for the year. It can encompass so many things in life.

So, for today’s Blogher prompt:

Nov. 30: Have you chosen a word of the year for yourself for 2017? What is it? If not, what words would you consider?

The first word that comes to mind for me is ‘determined’. Alternatively, determination. For 2017 I am determined to reach all those little goals I’ve set for myself, but simply put off in 2016.

Goals and projects.

I have quite a few projects that I have been shoving off to the back burner, such as releasing some of my adult literature/smutty romances. I have quite a few all ready for circulation. I just need cover art.

Getting my house in order. I mean, to the naked eye its fine, but my old office, which is the third bedroom, has been turned into a storage room. I recently purchased one of those big barn looking portable storage things. I am taking all that stored and boxed up stuff and moving it into the storage barn when it is delivered. Oh, I can’t wait until it’s delivered. Then I can once again have a guest bedroom, as my daughter took over the original guest room for herself.

New furniture. I want (don’t need) a new living room set. It’s not needed, as stated, I just want to rejuvenate the home.

Now, something I am need of to help alleviate further back problems is a new mattress and box spring. I already have what I want picked out. No more springs for me. A nice firm memory foam and gel type bed. Very pricey, but I think, after all the rave reviews my sister has given me about her own bed, that it will be worth it.

I am determined to meet my goals. Those goals demand discipline in several areas, such as time management and sticking to a good budget for savings and purchases.

After my back surgery, I am also determined to get back into the gym. Keep my back strong, tone up my legs, and strengthen my core.

To sum my word up for 2017…it would definitely be ‘determined’.

And there we have the end of NaBloPoMo 2016.

Hope you have all enjoyed it!

Whats wrong with me? :[

10408834_882677815152164_3507141268014651421_n

So, I know I’ve been pretty quiet lately, other than on my short story sites where I’m posting like a demon to get these short story compilations out. Most of them are already here on this blog, but there are about 30 more over on Jukepop, Wattpad, Tablo, Bublish, Medium, and of course, Niume. Go to Niume. Go to Niume. Read all the stories, drink all the coffee! Go to Niume.

I decided to do a bit of rearranging this weekend. You know me, my bright ideas. BLAGH. I got rid of the loveseat that was here in my office, and then today I was digging through a box to put my lovely pretties on my bookcase tops and whatnot and BAM! Sliced up on arm on something in that box. Dont know what it was, but ironixlly enough, I keep all my medical supplies in there. >.<

So I was bleeding like a stuck pigs, the wound is deep, but not long. I grabbed a dirty handtowel and wrapped it up and went to the ER for stitches. I was there for roughly 3 hours. Maybe longer. I didnt wear my watch, but it felt like forever.

I’m back here at home and not going near that box any time soon.

The office is coming together nicely though. Not that it didnt look smashing before, but it was time for a change. And without the loveseat I have much more floor space for the kitties.

2016-09-03-09-53-47

The kitties on catnip. 🙂

Just thought everyone would like to see the kitties, because…KITTIES!

I’ll be taking it easy and uploading more short stories to Niume and Medium. ~whispers in your ear~ GO READ.

~squishes my loves~

Writers: Getting a little more exposure.

Rpih9

In my last post, I made mention of a few website that I post my various stories, other than just here on the blog.

Its great to help build a following and fan base to broaden your readers, and, in some cases, gain the attention of agents and publishers.

To help you in this, I’m going to provide you a listing, links and my personal takes on each site.

Jukepop: http://www.jukepop.com/

screenshot-www-jukepop-com-2016-09-21-05-51-41

Jukepop is called a site for ‘Serials’. You post chapters, and they can be voted upon. You can make a little money, and you can even get some investors that you share your eventual profits with.

Personally, I just post there for the exposure. The posting process is a little difficult and time consuming, and then anything you post must be approved. ‘A Walk Amongst the Dead’ still has not been approved, and I can only assume because of the few profanities in the story.

Tablo: https://tablo.io/

tablo-io

Tablo doesnt seem too impressive of a site. I know my profile and works do not get many looks and reads or upvotes. It is user friendly, however, and good for a little extra exposure if you can get followers built.

Wattpad: https://www.wattpad.com/

wattpad-com

wattpad is extremely easy to use, but to gain a following you have to do a lot of reading and liking and following of your own to get anywhere. A lot of people have had great success with Wattpad! I am just now getting myself reaquainted with it.

Scriggler: https://scriggler.com/

scriggler-com

Scriggle…well…it takes some getting used to. Its easy to upload, simply copy and paste your chapters or story, but navigating groups, checking mail and comments are a little rough. I have my own group there for short story writers. Its great for building a following. And they have more than just stories. They have opinion sections, poetry, news. etc.. You can track your ranking and see how your doing in your story writing. Its cool…just a little difficult to check mail.

Bublish: https://www.bublish.com/

www-bublish-com

Bublish is amazing, however, there is a catch. To get the most out of the site, you will have to break down and pay for it. A monthly fee of $9.99 a month, or $99.00 annually.

The site is easy to navigate, easy to post your work, and allows for ‘rough cut bubbles’ which you share via Facebook and Twitter. You choose what you want to share from the writing, and it creates a bubble all ready to post for you to your social media account. I personally like the service. Its easy to gain more followers as well, because Bublish will also make a tweets from their Twitter accounts with your bubbles and account name.

upliterate: http://upliterate.com/

upliterate-com

I love this site. It doesnt get you a lot of exposure, but you will get a small group of followers which will hopefully follow your social media accounts and website to see more of you.

Its super user friendly as well.

Medium: https://medium.com/

medium-com

Medium is another super easy site to upload your works to and gain a bit more of a following. People can ‘like’ and comment. Its very stream-lined and, as I’ve said, easy to use.

I have this as one of my main places to post my short stories, as I can do it super quick and without a lot of fuss.

Write Globe: http://writeglobe.com/

writeglobe

This is a new site for me. I have yet to upload anything to test the waters. However, here is what I pulled from the ‘About’ page.

About Us

Write Globe is the perfect platform for every creative individuals in the world of writing, publishing and editing, who want to reach out to a larger section of the society.

Acting as the linkage between writers, poets, authors and publishers, Write Globe helps these creative individuals in showcasing their unique talent to the world. The books which are written by you will be promoted immensely on the platform of Write Globe and which will gain attention from several visitors of the website. Along with promoting the books, Write Globe also acts as an excellent base for those who want to submit their writings or articles or poetries.

Through Write Globe you can find convenient publishers and publishers too can advertise their brand’s service via this online portal. Recently book trailers have become quite popular for promoting upcoming novels and books and Write Globe has provisions for such unique book trailers on the website.

Promotional events like book launch, book signing or any other event can be extensively shared via Write Globe which will showcase your creativities to the world.

Niume: https://niume.com/

screenshot-niume-com-2016-09-02-06-43-36

This is one of my top favorites. It is very easy to gain a following on this site, and is so visually pleasing. You can host more than just stories as well. You can make blog entries in the ‘Lifestyles’ sphere. You can post your photos. You can show off your humor, and so much more.

I have gained a lot of recognition for the short stories I posted there recently, and a lot of excellent feedback.

Authors.me: https://www.authors.me/

www-authors-me

I am in love with this site. Totally. Its super easy to work with. A the extra fantastic bonus?

It links you up with Agents and Publishers in your selected genres. You submit your work to the selection that matches what genre you have chosen for a particular book, set of short stories or poetry, and whammo…you get a response on how much time it will take for them to look at your work and get back to you.

I love this site.

~~~
Now, this list, with the exception of Write Globe, is in reverse order of how I use them. I know, I should have mentioned that at the start.
I know there are tons of other sites out there, for writing, blogging…everything under the sun. These are my personal favorites for writing…with a smidge of blogging.
So, I hope you all enjoy, look me up, and lets get some followers a followin’!
My summer vacation…
Rpih9
Well, I know I just sort of disappeared and fell off the Earth.
I AM BACK!! MWAHAHAHAHA!! ~ahems~
So, where did I go and what have I been doing?
First, I’m sad the Zombie Apocalypse hasn’t happened yet. I’M WAITING!!
My moms and pops traveled all the way up here to sunny, hot and humid Southern Alabama from Guatemala to take care of some important things, such as social security, banking, and renewing their retiree military IDs.
While here, my aunt also came into town, along with her hubby and one of my cousins.
We all had a great time. Can we say POOL PARTIES!!! And, it was my moms birthday while they were here, so that was another celebration!
It was a really great time, and an escape I needed.
I also got myself a gym membership! I adore Planet Fitness.
With all the fun in the sun however, I managed to get myself a bit of sun poisoning. It wasnt too bad, but annoying nonetheless.
My sister also came to visit. We always have a great time when she’s here.
My bestie (LP) and I are plotting world domination…I mean planning on her coming to visit me over here on this side of the States. Beware all.
I managed to catch a cold somehow, and was miserable for a week. Blah. Still recovering.
My furbabies are all doing great. All happy cats.
My daughter is doing AWESOME! She found herself the most AWESOMEST JOB EVER!! She is still doing all her normal paralegal stuff, but she works from home, making a buttload of money. She has only been with the Firm about 3 weeks, but they love her, and she has proven to be a perfect fit. Maybe she will look towards actually going to law school beyond her paralegal degree. A mom can hope.
So, July marks the starts of another Camp NaNoWriMo, and I’ve set myself at a pretty low word count. Short stories once again, sort of like dipping my toes into the waters once again.
I have been sharing some of my ~ahem~ smut stories with a fellow writer friend in my local area. She shared some of hers with me as well. She likes what I’ve got and wants to see more, so that is motivating me quite a bit to publish some of the 13 erotica novels I have, after getting them edited and getting cover designs. My erotica collection will be E-Book only.
November I plan to get back to my roots on the original task of finishing up the continuation of my first published novel. It seems intimidating right now. GRAH.
In my gaming and role play world, I have gone back to my original game, sort of testing the waters there to bring my character back into society once again. And in the other, well, today, actually, I had planned on bringing those characters out of their self-imposed exiles. So, writing will be had, and maybe even a character death. GASP!
How have you all been?? Send me comments, email, what have you…I know its only the 1st of July, but how has everyone been??
Oh, yeah…my broken foot is finally healed…I think…haha. I mean, I havent done anything to break it further. YAY!
The kids
Also, let me give a shout out to Patricia, who once again has lifted my spirits by sending me a little care package of loot! LOVE ALL THE STUFF! <3
Reaching decisions for the New Year…
Animals_Cat_Kitten_Keyboard_Sleep_61984_detail_thumb
Well, with my ongoing depression and lack of motivation for damn near anything, I have decided that my latest novel, the sequel to The Road of Darkness, will be put on hold.
I have it nearly completed, but, I’m not enthusiastic about it.
So for the time being, I will be working on it when the mood strikes, and I will be blogging more instead, as well as keeping detailed daily journals and working on my little short stories. I may even toss you guys some smut snippets. Everyone loves the smut, right?
So, to all who have been anticipating The Path of Redemption, I am truly sorry for the set back. You can produce a good story if you are not feeling it. Thats my belief, anyway.
In the meantime, prepare yourselves for the antic of my cats, my kid, and the general tomfoolery I find myself on (completely on accident, mind you)
Thank you so much to all of you, and there are some of you I have a special rapport with… dont think this means I will stop pestering you!!!
Much love and squishes to you all, and a Good New Years to you…
~squishes more and drools a little~
Striving for a new goal
10509772_917020414981143_1690245796735844915_n
The Horror Writers Association
I want to be a member of The Horror Writers Association something fierce. I have for some time now. However, being self-published does not qualify me for membership. I have to have something published and paid for (at least $25.00) or have won a cash prize and been published. The more the better.
So, since none of that has happened as of yet, I have hunted down some prize and publication paying competitions. Both will be VERY difficult.
The first and most pressing is a competition that costs $16.00 per entry, with a word limit of 6000. You all know writing short pieces are a challenge to me. ~headdesks~ The deadline for all entries is April 30th. I have skimmed through some of my ‘started and abandoned’ stories and found a couple that could possibly be expanded upon, or in some cases, edited, revised and shortened. I’d like to enter as many as possible.
The second is sort of weird. There are cash prizes and publication, but there isn’t like, a panel of judges. You may only make one entry, between 10k-40k word count. That’s not a big deal for me, I have two stories already that just need an unneeded paragraph or so deleted and some wordiness snipping. What makes this contest weird is that is determined by how many people download your story, which means you have to practically spam your story’s link everywhere as much as you can, get other people to spam it, and really work your ass off to get people to download the story, even if they don’t like the genre or want to read it. However, liking the genre and interest in the story is helpful, because I’m assuming there is a discussion forum for it as another part of ‘winning’ is the literary value, which the site does not state how that is determined. The deadline for that contest is June 4th.
I need something publish, even if its only a little winning, like the $25.00 minimum, to join the Horror Writers Association. Winning something more would be great, especially since you have to pay yearly dues to the Association.
The Horror Writers Association also holds their own contests for their writers, which again, I would love to be able to enter.
I could join as a ‘supporting non-professional writer’, but NO! I AM a professional. Or trying to be. ~whineswhineswhines~
So there you have it.
Camp NaNoWriMo is in April, with a 500 word count per day limit, so maybe I can flesh out some 6000 words or less stories and get them entered into the first competition, provided I have the $16.00 each entry fee’s. I have a few stories that are less than 1000 words, but to me, thats a little too short to be captivating for this competition. ~pouts~ But what do I know? 🙁
The Spotlights are pretty much on hold for a bit. No one has been wanting to step up for my little stage to be interviewed or showcase their work. If you DO happen to want to, then please email me…I will most definitely take the time to shine the lights on fellow authors AND bloggers. (zoeambler@zoeambler.com or zoe.ambler5@gmail.com – please place ‘Spotlight’ in the subject line)
GoFundMe No More
Dunce-cap-in-corner
I’ve deleted my GoFundMe  page. Not a single penny donated. Imma loser.
I’ll keep the PayPal donation button here on my sidebar of the site though. Any little bit helps, even though only one generous precious person has donated 5bux.
Did I not advertise enough? Did I not tweet enough? Did I not grovel enough?
Who knows.
I do know that this bottle of Japanese Plum wine, so elegantly served in a mason jar has given me a ‘to hell with it’ attitude.
I guess the dreaded Valentines day thing inst helping. Feeling like a total loser at this point. Book isn’t doing well, life isn’t doing well, home isn’t doing well, finances aren’t doing well. But…I guess that’s life, and its not exclusive to me. Many people the world over are in my same spot. They probably don’t have a prescription for Klonopin, Hydrocodone and a big bottle of Japanese Plum wine and a mason jar to ease their sorrows.
I’m going to go sit in a corner and wallow. Wallowing is good. Wallowing is safe. Wallow, wallow, wallow.
Ah well, maybe some lovely person will come along and sweep my worries away…before the wine does…lol.
Oh, contest update..only 1 book left up for grabs!
Spotlight: Auther/Playwright Damian Trasler
We welcome our first playwright this week! Exciting for me!
Dim reads
Welcome Damian Trasler!
We’re going to get my silly questions out of the way before digging into the good meat of things!!!
10 Questions, Zoe style…
1. What is your writing process?
I sit at the keyboard and then make coffee. Then I sit at the keyboard and drink coffee. Then I look at the internet and drink coffee. At some point, usually while one of my kids has required me to go and sit in a cold ice rink for an hour, I write the words that are pounding round my head and then feel ridiculously pleased with myself. Sometimes those words are a play script that I send to my publisher, www,lazybeescripts.co.uk
2. What do you read for pleasure?
I love Science Fiction, and am a particular fan of John Scalzi, but any well-written book is good. I prefer it if the story carries the weight – literary books have no merit if they are all art and no matter. That’s what Polonius said*
3. What is the greatest joy of writing/blogging for you?
Embarrassingly, the greatest joy of writing is writing. Like many people, I find it hard to commit to getting the story out of my head, and I will whine and wheedle and prevaricate, but once the thing is done I am delighted. Getting other people to read it is a bonus joy, but the main thing is typing “The End” or “Curtain” and knowing that an idea has become a real thing.
4. Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I was born while Elvis Presley was still alive, and before Star Wars existed. Hard to believe, I know, but there was such a time. I grew up in England, moving around a lot and gaining three children and a wife (not in that order) before emigrating to Canada. We did that because life was too easy, and we wanted more stress. Or something. Anyway, we ended up in British Columbia, which was created to make up for Australia.
5. What are your strengths and weaknesses when it comes down to sitting down and writing?
My weakness is sitting down and writing. I could prevaricate for England, except I wouldn’t get around to it. On the other hand, I have a neat little netbook which is painfully slow for anything but running Word, so when I go away or out to a sports event or music lesson with my offspring, I can get some actual work done. The strength is something other people have found – when I really enjoy the story I’m writing, I don’t notice the time or the distractions. It’s fun to write.
6. Do you have any strange writing habits?
Once, long ago, we went to a Greek island (Kefalonia) and my wife took our only baby at the time for a day trip to the capital city. She told me to just hang out at the local bar and write all day. I drank three small beers, ate a burger with fries and wrote longhand in a notebook while the crystal blue sea washed the sands only a few feet away. I really, really wish that was a habit I could maintain.
7. What is your least favorite part of the publishing / writing/blogging process?
Editing. I hate rewriting. Hate it with a burning passion. I have yet to find any method that makes it feasible for me to review an entire piece of work without printing it out and going through it with a pen. Which is just stupid. I believe this attitude may be detected in my published e-books.
8. Are you a person who makes their bed in the morning, or do you not see much point?
I make the bed. It’s a duvet, one flump and you’re done. That makes it so much nicer when you crawl back into bed hours later, wondering if you accomplished anything at all, or whether it was just one fourteen-hour long scream.
9. Where is one place you want to visit that you haven’t been before?
I have so little ambition when it comes to travel. I’m taking my wife to New York for our wedding anniversary (despite a fervent wish never to see the place myself) and I’m going back to the only place I want to go – Lucasfilm Headquarters in San Francisco. Just to look. Certainly not to badger anyone I see about this Boba Fett movie script I have….
10. Choose: Vampires, Werewolves, Demons or Zombies?
Zombies. Slow moving, stupid , lurching losers.
Bonus Question: How prepared are you for the Zombie Apocalypse I’ve ordered?
I’m good. I wrote “Eddie and the Kingdom” because I think a lot about surviving the zombie apocalypse. It’s not the zombies you have to watch out for, it’s the other survivors.
*This is me showing off my education. (Host note: LOVE INSIGHT AND HUMOR!)
Now! On to the good stuffs!
In his own words:
I was born and raised in England but moved to Canada with my family in 2009. I’ve been a published playwright since 2000, winning a few awards and having my plays performed all over the world. I published some of my old short stories to see how hard it was to use Amazon’s KDP program, and now I’ve reached a total of seven e-books. My next one will be the second “Eddie and the Kingdom” book, “Murder in the Kingdom”
