Snail Mail Movement

letter-writing

So, I am laid up with a broken and fractured foot, the weather is either hot and humid with the random tornado, or freezing cold. Its all Patricias fault.

And speaking of my dear friend, it got me thinking. I really do get tired of staring at this computer screen day in and day out. Sure, email is quick and easy.

But actual letter writing is a dying artform. I write back and forth with Patricia through both email and snail mail. I love the snail mail. I get cute cards and pretty stationary. Yes, my handwriting is comparable with that of a serial killer, but hey, its the thought that counts.

So, as a request to you lovely  followers, in my time of healing, I was wondering if any of you would also like to be snail mail buddies? Please?

If interested, and to keep your privacy, you can email me your address or PO Box. My address is listed on my contact page. Yes, I court stalkers, I know.

So help a girl on the mend and keep me from going batshit crazy staring out of this window or at this computer. Send me letters! Send me cards! Send me drawings! Just dont send me body parts or bombs. 😛  .lol.

Now, on to the healing part. 3 weeks in the boot. Three weeks of not being able to get up and get my own coffee or food or move comfortably.

BaxterMarie thinks my boot is her own personal scratching post. Jeffrey Jones does care one way or another. He doesnt even get out of my way when he see me hobbling along. He wants me dead, I know it.

On to something altogether different – music. I have been listening to Disturbs cover of The Sound of Silence on a loop. I LOVE this cover. David Draimans voice is so beautifully powerful. I was really surprised they covered this song.

Another musician that has a powerfully wide range to his vocals is Corey Taylor of Slipknot and Stone Sour. He can woo you with melodies and scream your head off. Its magical.

Movies – I have been watching movies. Both new and old. I had never seen Ravenous. Very good. I cant believe it took me this many years to sit down and watch it. Sometimes I get on a particular actor or actress binge. But my fall back is always horror and psychological thrillers. I dont really have any particual movie I want to rave about at the moment, but I’m sure in the next few weeks I’ll start posting up some movie reviews.

The Role Play world is touch and go. I quit one game altogether due to bullshit. The remaining game I play is touchy at the moment. There is apparantly a bit of out of character drama going on behind the scenes moving long time players to leave the game. Sadness. My characters are going strong, however.

So, when I go see the doctor, we’ll see how the broken bone and two fractures are healing. He wasnt too concerned with the fractures, but the broken bone seemed to worry him. He said there is a possibility that surgery may be required if it doesnt heal right in the boot. YAY…Stuck in a boot or cast even longer. GGRRAAHHH.

Okay my sweetlings, I’m off for now.

~hugs and squishes~

PS: Send me some mail!!! <3

30 Day Challenge: Day 6

30 day challenge

Day 6: What band or musician is most important to you?

I can’t really answer that firmly. Music is very important to me in general. I love a variety of music. I just cannot sit down and say ‘this is my favorite band or musician in particular’. There is just was too much that moves me.
Slipknot and Stone Sour are a top-lister when I am in a mood. Cory Taylor’s vocals can be so harsh, yet in the next verse, so subtle and smooth. The man is wonderfully talented.
However, when I write, and want to set a mood, I create playlists. I don’t really like the distraction of vocals when I write, so I have a great love of Original Motion Picture Scores. ‘The Fountain’ is a favorite. Some of my top list composers/conductors are Clint Mansell, Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard, M83, Ramin Djawadi…and well, several others. I am also lulled by the wondrous vocals of Lisa Gerrard. And Greame Revells work on The Crow and The Crow: City of Angels was stunning.
I love classical music as well. I would have to say my top list on that would be Vivaldi’s The Four Season, with Summer as my top choice.

Music in the Writing world

i-love-my-music-15276-1366x768

I read an interesting article on writing over the weekend that suggested that you DON’T listen to music when you’re writing. It suggested that you just listen to the ambient sounds around you. If your in a coffee shop, listen to the idle chatter or TV, at home, just listen to the sounds of the home. Conversations, etc.

Poop I say! The article implied that listening to your favorite tunes distracted you from your writing, rather than relax and inspire. That the music pulled your attention too much.

Poppycock.

Perhaps its simply personal opinion and comfortability. Maybe its your choice in music. The article didn’t say what sort of music to not listen to.

When I write, most of my music is movie scores, classical and instrumental. No lyrics. I can see how bee-bopping to lyrics could pull your attention a little, but really, if you love what you listen to, it can inspire you past rough points. Right now I am listening to Sia. My writing is coming along just fine. When I start working on Book Two here in a few minutes, I’m switching to a more mellow playlist to suit the mood of the chapter I’m working on. It needs to be emotion provoking. Sad, sorrowful.

My playlist is actually divided up that way. By emotions. If I need inspiration for a fight scene, well, I put on some powerful battle march type of music.

The uses in your writing with music are endless. That article was pooh in my opinion. And it wasn’t a ‘suggestion’ article. It said DON’T do this…DON’T do that.

And well…I’m a rebel dammit!! ~shakes a fist~

Todays accomplishments!

So…I’ve recovered from this mornings bout of insane silliness. I still lack an A string, so I cant be all musical.

I took a much needed nap, then got up and opened some word documents to stare at them a bit to see what they had to say to me.

I started working on one that I haven’t touched in, like…a year now. And was promptly told by spell-check that it didn’t have a clue as to what word I was grasping at.

THESAURUS.COM time!

I haven’t gotten any actual work done on the book I’m SUPPOSED to be working on. I seem to keep going back to older works and fleshing them out a little. Some could be posted here on the blog I imagine…they aren’t graphically smutty or anything. Just kind of long, and I don’t know if a blog post would do them justice.

My truck is in the shop, I’m stranded at home. I hate that to no end. I love to just be able to get up, toss my laptop in the truck any time the mood strikes and head to the coffee shop. Hopefully my truck will be fixed by next week.

I do more productive work at the coffee shop.

I’m trying to stay away from Netflix or I get sucked into that vortex.

So I am letting music guide me. Now that I cant practice my own, I have a killer playlist lined up.

I could always go back to bed. Everybody complains I don’t sleep enough. I feel like I might miss something. What? I have no clue…lol.

So, today’s accomplishments so far….ZIP! NADA! NUTTIN’! Not a thang…~head desks~

Early morning head-banging part II

WWWWWAAAAHHHH!!!!!

I snapped my A string.

Its 7:31am, most music stores aren’t open yet, and my truck is broke anyway. I have no wheels. I HAVE NO VIOLIN!!!! NO SPARE STRING!!!  WWWAAHHH!!!

On the plus side, I could use this time to, yanno, actually sleep, since I haven’t done that since like…hhhmm…5am or so yesterday….

Oh…funny story…

So, a few months ago I drag out my violin to practice and I do a warm up. My cat loves to try to catch hold of the bow, or any loose horse-hairs. So I’m warming up and she’s in the way and I shoo her off. I’m ready to dive into something.

I decide on Beethoven…Ode to Joy.

Start playing.

Cat looks at me and promptly pukes on the floor. >_<

Worst. Audience. Ever.

Everyone’s a critic. -.-
