New Year with Cheezy Horror Flix

So I have been ringing in the new year with some of the most horrible Horror Movies ever. I have a rather large list, but just today I watched this series of movies, Bad Ben, Steelmanville Road (prequel) and Badder Ben.

They were just awful, yet enthralling. The f/x were way laughable. The premise was hilarious. They characters themselves were worth a chuckle because the acting was so terrible.

The reason I stuck it out on these horrid movies was because I am a die hard ‘found footage’ movie fanatic. I love found footage movies. I have watched quite a few of them, going off of a list I found online. Some of the best ones out there, however, are subtitled due to being foreign films. I hate having to read a movie…too much chance I will visually miss something important.

We had a lovely Christmas and New Years in my household, and over this past weekend I got to meet my daughters future in-laws. They are great, and we will come together to build a fantastic family.

I have been trying to get the cats to take a picture of them in my carry on bag and duffel bags. Normal, they would be all fighting for who gets to sit in them. Now, when I want a picture of it, they are blatantly ignoring them. Little turds.

Things seem to be nice, quiet and happy here of late, and I am really enjoying it. I sent a bunch of mail out in December. Cards and letters. I got a lot in return as well. I love my pen pals. And my email buddies. Its nice to have more than just the cats to talk to, because they always turn out ignoring me to lick various parts of their bodies, or looking at me in that ‘I am cat, I am judging you’ way.

More to come soon. Been working on a few writing pieces here and there. Gaming a lot. We are at war, so that’s always fun!

Be sweet, my lovelies.

Movie Review: Wolf Creek 1,2 & Series

Wolf Creek 1 & 2

wolf creek series

Wolf Creek the Series (one season)

I took a day to myself to re-watch some of my favorite movies from Down Under. Australia puts out some really great horror movies, and movies based on actual events.

This review covers the Wolf Creek movies and the single season series. Each starts with the mention that it is based on actual events. And its is pretty accurate. Australia has a large amount of serial killers that have never been caught.

Young people flock to the Outback to take in the brilliant scenery and hitchhike around the country. Hence, so many go missing. Predators hone in one this, making these young ones easy targets. Included in the opening credits of the movies is the line ‘30,000 people go missing in Australia every year, 90% are found, 10% are never found.’ So, foul play runs rampant.

There are proven ‘backpack serial killers’ that have been caught, but how many copy cats go unchecked? And some of those that have been caught are so brutal to their victims. Australia is a vast land, as harsh as it is beautiful.

So, on with the reviews.

Wolf Creek movies 1 and 2, and the short series are some of my favorites. It is the villain I seem to root for, because, in my little head, he is just the best. Mick Taylor is a relentlessly brutal serial killer. He targets tourists. He views them as pigs that just need to be eliminated from ‘his’ country.

Mick has the absolute best maniacal snicker/chuckle I have ever heard. Actor John Jarret captures this character so well, I could never picture the character of Mick Taylor played by anyone else.

The good news is, Wolf Creek 3 is in post production.

Wolf Creek introduces us to Mick. It shows his relentless pursuit of those he deems as trash and a mar on his country. Foreigners are not welcome in his country. So, as a ‘pest eliminator’, he does his job. He takes great joy in this endeavor.

Wolf Creek 2 is much the same, showing just how gruesome this man can be. He is hilarious, however. Creepy, but hilarious. Some of his one liners had me in stitches, but, you have to remember, I am a fan of villains. Also, that snicker/chuckle. It makes me smile.

The short Season of Wolf Creek that was developed was also so perfect. This time, we got to see what drives Mick to do the things he does. We learn of his past, getting a glimpse into why he does what he does, and just how his mind got so warped.

The movies and the series are quite gruesome for the faint of heart. There really isn’t a fear factor as far a jump scares. It is more about sitting on the edge of your seat as the gore happens, because you can nearly feel the pain of Mick victims as he does what he does. He is quite creative and twisted. No one really gets a ‘clean death’.

So if you are up for a really charismatic villain and a lot of gruesome edge of your seat gore, I highly recommend checking these movies and the series out. You wont be disappointed.

What’s on my DVD shelves: Pacific Rim

pacific rim

I absolutely love this movie. I am not a big sci-fi fan, but this movie was awesome. Big robots, big monsters, lots of screaming. Some great acting. It had a bit of everything. Thrills, screams, and a bit of humor.

I was not a fan of Charlie Hunnam before this movie. And, as he did such a good job, I started watching Sons of Anarchy…it just didn’t hold my attention.

I love Ron Pearlman, in most anything he does. He was my little teen hero in the TV series Beauty and the Beast. He was my comic hero in Hellboy. He just seems to put a lot of himself into whatever character he is playing.

And let’s not forget about Idris Elba. Oh, older lady swoon for that man.

Now, I have always been a big robot fan, having grown up with both the comic and TV series of Transformers. I even have the Decepticon and Autobot logos on my left hand. And I will be spot lighting those movies as well at a later date.

Pacific Rim is about to have a sequel. I am not a big fan of sequels…too many thing seem to be forgotten, or…well…I don’t know. They just don’t live up to the original movies ‘wow’ factor. Especially with an all new cast and whatnot.

Some movies don’t need a sequel. It should be left well enough alone. Others need a sequel to tidy up loose ends.

The special effects to Pacific Rim were above par. So many details were included in movement of both the monsters and robots. Thumbs up for realistic things like the quiver of blubber on a monster, or the pinions of a foot and leg rocking in a robot.

Director Guillermo del Toro usually never lets me down.

This was a great movie to sit down and watch. I was pleasantly surprised at the acting, directing and special effects. If you haven’t seen it, I do highly recommend it!

Severe Weather, Kittehs and Classes…

skull_kitty_classic_round_sticker-rcf19db4c8de4420e92afb11f506e76ed_v9i1a_1024

So, last night we had severe storms in the area. Here in Enterprise, we had a lot of strong winds, trees fallings and debris everywhere.

In the nearby city of Dothan, they had much more going on. Part of the ceiling at a WalMart fell in, lots of people without power, trees falling on peoples homes. They were a lot harder hit than we were, and there is only 20 miles between us.

I made sure my friends down that way were okay. Thankfully everyone was.

The cats are doing great. I am a little worried about BaxterMarie. She isnt growing. She seems like she’s going to be a ‘forever kitten’. Perhaps she is just a little tiny breed. Jeffrey Jones on the other hand is getting fatter by the day. YAY. And he is a proper little Sir. As I have told my friends, he just needs a monocle and top hat. He is a bit on the skittish side. BaxterMarie is as fearless as ever. Oh, and she still likes to pee in my bathroom sink for some reason.

So, remember back when I decided to start taking some school courses? Remember how I said I would probably regret it? Cry? Throw tantrums? Well, I am. WTF was I thinking?!

However, as much as it all makes me want to cry, I am thoroughly enjoying it. I have a huge class load, but I can take it at my own pace pretty much, since I dont work or anything. And these classes, so spectacular. They are definitely holding my interest.

I should check in more often, I know, I know. I will try to make it a point.

I have reconnected with some family members that I havent talked to in years as well. You see, my mom was always sort of the ‘black sheep’. She married a military man and we traveled and lived all over the place, while her sisters stayed right in the area they were born. So, we all had some distance there. And my aunts werent very nice when my mom was younger either. I remember that growing up. But things are different now. I am calling one aunt on  a semi-regular basis, and doing hand written letters with the other. It is actually quite nice.

Well, the bad weather has died down. We’ve had our typical weird winter weather here in the South. Temps in the 70s, tornados, then the temps dropping into the 40s. You know, once every ten years or so it snows here in April. Totally freaks us out. We arent prepared for snow. We dont know what to do other than shut down the state…lol. No, seriously. The upper portions of the state knows what to do. But not down here in the very southern most part. We all flail about and marvel at the white stuff falling from the sky. We also close our part of the state, because heaven forbid we try to drive in the stuff. You wont catch me trying to drive, no sir.

And, lastly, I am still addicted to the Netflix Vortex of Doom. I’ve also fallen in love with Putlocker.

Tonights movie: Macbeth. Michael Fassbender….YUM and DROOL!!

So, until next time my lovies…

Snail Mail Movement

letter-writing

So, I am laid up with a broken and fractured foot, the weather is either hot and humid with the random tornado, or freezing cold. Its all Patricias fault.

And speaking of my dear friend, it got me thinking. I really do get tired of staring at this computer screen day in and day out. Sure, email is quick and easy.

But actual letter writing is a dying artform. I write back and forth with Patricia through both email and snail mail. I love the snail mail. I get cute cards and pretty stationary. Yes, my handwriting is comparable with that of a serial killer, but hey, its the thought that counts.

So, as a request to you lovely  followers, in my time of healing, I was wondering if any of you would also like to be snail mail buddies? Please?

If interested, and to keep your privacy, you can email me your address or PO Box. My address is listed on my contact page. Yes, I court stalkers, I know.

So help a girl on the mend and keep me from going batshit crazy staring out of this window or at this computer. Send me letters! Send me cards! Send me drawings! Just dont send me body parts or bombs. 😛  .lol.

Now, on to the healing part. 3 weeks in the boot. Three weeks of not being able to get up and get my own coffee or food or move comfortably.

BaxterMarie thinks my boot is her own personal scratching post. Jeffrey Jones does care one way or another. He doesnt even get out of my way when he see me hobbling along. He wants me dead, I know it.

On to something altogether different – music. I have been listening to Disturbs cover of The Sound of Silence on a loop. I LOVE this cover. David Draimans voice is so beautifully powerful. I was really surprised they covered this song.

Another musician that has a powerfully wide range to his vocals is Corey Taylor of Slipknot and Stone Sour. He can woo you with melodies and scream your head off. Its magical.

Movies – I have been watching movies. Both new and old. I had never seen Ravenous. Very good. I cant believe it took me this many years to sit down and watch it. Sometimes I get on a particular actor or actress binge. But my fall back is always horror and psychological thrillers. I dont really have any particual movie I want to rave about at the moment, but I’m sure in the next few weeks I’ll start posting up some movie reviews.

The Role Play world is touch and go. I quit one game altogether due to bullshit. The remaining game I play is touchy at the moment. There is apparantly a bit of out of character drama going on behind the scenes moving long time players to leave the game. Sadness. My characters are going strong, however.

So, when I go see the doctor, we’ll see how the broken bone and two fractures are healing. He wasnt too concerned with the fractures, but the broken bone seemed to worry him. He said there is a possibility that surgery may be required if it doesnt heal right in the boot. YAY…Stuck in a boot or cast even longer. GGRRAAHHH.

Okay my sweetlings, I’m off for now.

~hugs and squishes~

PS: Send me some mail!!! <3

In the clutches of Netflix…

Yes, I am STILL within the clutches of the Netflix Vortex of Doom. I really dont mind, however, as it keeps my mind occupied a bit.

I have watched some really great, and some really bad stuff. And some funny. Though, I dont think the funny stuff was supposed to be funny…I think its that sense of dark humor in me, or maybe my inner serial killer. >_>

Tonight I will go over three movies I’ve watched. The good, the bad and the ugly, in their own respects.

So, on with the show, shall we?

b70803xwyac

Twixt

A writer with a declining career arrives in a small town as part of his book tour and gets caught up in a murder mystery involving a young girl. That night in a dream, he is approached by a mysterious young ghost named V. He’s unsure of her connection to the murder in the town, but is grateful for the story being handed to him. Ultimately he is led to the truth of the story, surprised to find that the ending has more to do with his own life than he could ever have anticipated.

Alrighty well, it was a bad movie, yet really good. Confusing, yes, I know.

The storyline was lame. Val Kilmer, while a wonderful actor, is looking very much his age in this lead role. I swear, if they put anymore spackle and make-up on him, I might try to hang some pictures.

Anyway. I wasnt expecting so much humor in this movie. Unintentional maybe? But, if you are a writer, you will find this movie a hoot, as it seems to target writers, their plights…and those stupid things some people say and ask them. It also pokes a little fun at the stereotypical ‘writers process’.

I had no idea Edgar Allan Poe was going to be tossed into the story as well. Loved that.

The cinematography was both cheezy and pretty. Low budget for sure. But, perhaps it was meant to have that look.

I found the movie to be pretty good, since I found so much humor in it. I recommend it.

Banshee Chapter

Journalist Anne Roland explores the disturbing links behind her friend’s sudden disappearance, an ominous government research chemical, and a disturbing radio broadcast of unknown origin.

Alright, this movie sucked a little, but again, I found immense humor in it. The storyline was lame. The FX were lame. What got me though, was Ted Levines performance (come on, you know, the ‘its puts the lotion on its skin…’ guy from Silence of the Lambs, and other great performances). In this film, he is pretty much Hunter S Thompson without being called Hunter S Thompson. Even the artwork on the walls of his ranch resemble the artwork of Hunters great artist friends.

But again. The movie…bleh. I only watched it because I was so amused by the Hunter S Thompson salute. If you want some humor, and dont care if the story sucks a little, well, give this a watch.

Area_51_Film_Poster

Area 51

Three young conspiracy theorists attempt to uncover the mysteries of Area 51, the government’s secret location rumored to have hosted encounters with alien beings. What they find at this hidden facility exposes unimaginable secrets.

This movie sucked. No way to say it but that. I watched it because I love those ‘found footage’ sort of movies. I do, its a guilty pleasure, even when they suck. I was totally disappointed when I saw who directed and produced it, since I really liked the Paranormal Activity movies and the Purge. See, thats how they get you to watch this drivel of a film…you get sucked right in by those other movies, directors, producers, etc.. Dont waste you time on this movie…there is nothing redeeming in it at all.

—————–

So there you go, my darlings. Tomorrow night we will have both a film thingy and a bit of a rambling thing…the rambling thing may even turn into a discussion. Its a deep subject matter. Or weird…depending on how you look at it.

See you tomorrow, darlings.

What a day…movies abound none the less!

Wow, what a day I’ve had. Mentally exhausting. Well, most of that in the last hour. Yes, I sat here for the last hour pouring over pictures of Fat Cat and completely bawling my eyes out and snotting everywhere. To say I’m a hot mess is an understandment. ~shivers at the thought of looking in a mirror~

Little Man Jeffrey had his first vet appointment today. He got his vaccinations and tests, and was a dapper little fellow for Dr Carter.

I broke my daughters computer. Well, nothing that isnt fixable, I’ve been working on it all day. She’s sleeping now, so it will have to wait until tomorrow to be finished up and she can get on with her online life.

I did manage to fix my own computer, however. I have two drives…DVD and BluRay. Well, I had a bad connection in there somewhere, and a bad cable. I had to fish through there and order the needed pieces. They came in this morning and I got things sorted. Then it was off to destroy my daughters PC!!! All I wanted to do was something she had asked for anyway, which was change a few things, and maybe install Windows 10. Oh, what a mess the whole thing turned into. When I left her to get some sleep, I had just set the machine on resetting itself back to factory settings. Some of it is her own fault. She never does maintenance, never defrags, NEVER updates. GAH!

I am just a tad too OCD about my computer and laptops.

In other news, I still managed to watch some movies. Quite a few actually. I’m a vampire, remember, I never sleep.

I’m only going to list two here tonight.

These two movies caught me COMPLETELY off guard!!! I was expecting average movies. Okay movies. Meh movies.

They both turned out to be pretty fan-frikkin-tastic!

First up:

Scribbler_movieposter

The Scribbler

A young woman is facing her destructive multiple personalities using an experimental new procedure known as “The Siamese Burn.”

This movie was amazing to the senses. Visually stunning and well acted. The story-line was so much more than the tiny blurb given for the movie. The realm of psychology and peoples reactions in this film hit home in some ways. I loved it. Recommend, definitely.

infini-movie-posterInfini

An elite ‘search and rescue’ team transport onto an off-world mining-facility to rescue Whit Carmichael, the lone survivor of a biological outbreak.

I know, I know, you’re thinking ‘b-movie’, and it just may be, but some big money was spent on it, at least for the special FX. I went in for the ‘biological outbreak’ hook. OH MAN!! I WAS BLOWN AWAY! I LOVE THIS!  And the wonderful thing is, it still leaves you questioning. It still leaves you wondering. HIGHLY recommend. Another mind-bender in the end.

Well, thats tonights wrap up.

I’m pooped. And my face is all puffy.

~sad panda face~

Movies…Netflix, you fail me.

I am once again tossing myself into the arms of the Netflix Vortex of Doom to console my sadness. I wanted to feel excitement at the tragedy of other people on the screen, and their pain and loss…of limbs and blood.

So, two VERY bad movies. Though, this is my opinion…

soulmate-poster-movie

Soulmate

Widowed Audrey retreats to an isolated Welsh cabin after a failed suicide attempt, to recuperate. Still haunted by the tragic death of her husband and struggling with her psychosis, she begins to hear strange noises.

Okay, I nodded off twice during this movie, and then the third time, I just said to hell with it and climbed in bed for a nap. When I got back up, I started the movie once again. Man, if you want to sleep, this is the movie for you. Boring, boring, boring. It was a total let down.

13_Eerie_poster

13 Eerie

Six forensic undergrads embark on a scientific expedition to a remote island that was once used as illegal biological testing grounds for life-term prisoners.

This movie grabbed me with the forensic scoop. After watching the movie, I wanted a melon scoop to prod my eyeballs out with. This movie was clearly a ‘B-movie’. However, this one gave B-movies a bad name. Bad acting, bad visuals, stupid story, stupid character reactions. I really expected more of Katharine Isabelle, but, I’ll cut her some slack since this movie came back out in 2013 and her career wasnt established yet.

I’ve watched a few other movies, some good, some bad. These two, however, were just dreadful, and I feel it my civic duty to prevent you all the torment of watching such seriously stupid and bad movies.

Tomorrow, some good movies!

MOVIES!!!

11181166_ori

The Babadook

This movie was…interesting. It had some very good creep factor, but not scare factor. I loved the story, and the little boy is a stellar little actor. Though, this isnt a movie I would bother watching again.

thewomaninblackposter

The Woman in Black 2

After how much I loved the first movie, this one was a total and complete let down. Boring story all way around. It just strayed way too far from the original movie. Blah.

MV5BMTk2Nzc0NDQwMV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNjI2MjY3OQ@@._V1_UY1200_CR90,0,630,1200_AL_

Byzantium

Saved the best for last! I absolutely loved this movie. Not just because it was a vampire movie, but because of the concept of what a vampire can and cant do in this telling of a vampire tale. Gender roles also play into the whole scheme of things. The acting was great. The concept was great. Top marks from me!!!

Now, I think I will delve into Netflix a little more. I am really considering re-watching Supernatural from the very beginning. YES! GLUTTON FOR PUNISHMENT! WHO NEEDS SLEEP! SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK!!

~falls over snoring and drooling~

A Zoe-Style Move Review: Fury

Fury-Movie-HD-Wallpapers

Fury

Yeah, so, its been out for awhile now, but I’ve just gotten the chance over the holiday weekend to watch it.

Fury.

Now, we all know I am a history buff, especially WWII.

I Frikkin’ LOVED this movie.

It was honest and blunt. It was in your face on the realities of these armor crews in WWII, and how the Germans really did have superior armor divisions and tanks.

And not only that, but in the stories of each member of the Fury family. They came from all different walks of life, loved and hated one another, but no matter what, their Fury was home.

I just loved it. 5 stars from me. But again, WWII buff…oh, and Brad Pitt. ~drools~ I love him in just about everything he is in. I like him best in hard nosed gruff roles. I prefer his cleaner cut look though.

So, watching this made me want to pull up some of my other favorite WWII films. But then I got lost in the Netflix Vortex of Doom, and have started watching Heroes from season one and onwards. ~facedesks~

I really should be working on my book. I really should be working on Camp Nano. I really should be working on contest entries (still pining away for membership into The Horror Writers Association)

On a strange side note, there is one war movie I will NOT watch, despite its good reviews and everyone telling me to watch it, and that’s ‘War Horse’. Nope. Yanno, I can watch people being tormented, exploded, decapitated, dismembered…but I cant watch it happen to an animal. And I don’t even know if that sort of thing happens in War Horse, but I know what the movie portrays, and I just cant see that. Not to horses. Yeah, bring me exploding people. ~sage nods~
