NaBloPoMo: Day Four: Social Media Nightmare

NaBloPoMo_1114_465x287_NOV_zps8d81cd05msznf7Social media. Its very important for an aspiring writer or artist.

It. Is. A. Nightmare.

I admit, I’m flying by the seat of my pants. I refuse to hire a professional to make me a snazzy page, make my links all pretty and promote things. Just like my publishing endeavors, I want to do this on my own, and learn from it all.

I’ve got blogging down…haha.

Facebook is a nightmare for me. I cant seem to get anyone over there. I think I have a total of 6 people liking the page. And I don’t know how to manage the page. I have duplicate content, its messy and disorganized. Blah.

BUT…its a learning experience. I could pay to promote, but I want to try to wing it first.

I have a personal blog on blogspot/blogger google+ thingy. That’s easy enough for those wanting to get a glimpse into the more personal side of me.

Twitter…better at it than Facebook, but still not too swift.

Google+…Oh.Em.Gee. It had me make like three different profiles. I don’t know why. But, I went along.

I know things are supposed to be all stream-lined and professional. Well, I’m not a real professional type person. The word ‘professional’ equates to ‘stuffy’ with me. I mean, I even had someone deny me on LinkedIn because my profile picture wasn’t ‘professional’ enough. Blargh.

I want to be successful and for my books to do well, but lawdy, promoting and this social media networking thing is killin’ meh!

  1. Oh man. I hear ya. Biggest advice I can get is network like crazy! I found that google+ and Twitter are the best. And then on wordpress: follow people and comment on their blogs. It’ll take time, but you’ll get a following!

    Best of luck to you!!

  2. WordPress is a great community of writers you do need to dedicate at least an hour(or much more) toward networking. Put your efforts in a few places. Twitter is jest easier than FB.
I came into Social Media when it was not that popular with the creative sorts that has obviously changed. Be real get to know people and let them help push you.
